About De Portola

De Portola Middle School serves families in the Tierrasanta and Murphy Canyon neighborhoods. Our diverse population represents several different ethnic backgrounds including Caucasian (47 percent) , Hispanic (30 percent), African American (9 percent) and Asian (9 percent).

De Portola's educational focus is to prepare students for continued success with rigorous secondary curriculum meeting California State Standards. We are proud to be designated a California Distinguished School during the 2023-24 school year.

Our traditional calendar offers core subjects for all students. In addition to core subjects, students take Physical Education and one elective.  We also offer a Spanish Immersion program for students who have participated in Spanish Immersion at the elementary level.

Our teachers are experienced in their subject areas, and all hold valid California teaching credentials. We strive to offer a curriculum that is student-centered, rigorous, standards-based and designed to meet the various learning needs of all students.

Parents and guardians are active participants at De Portola. The Foundation has raises money to sponsor school field trips, school dances, and much more.

Parents are encouraged to volunteer and provide daily assistance in a variety of ways. De Portola has an outstanding teaching staff. We have local, state and national award-winning teachers holding various honors. Come see De Portola in action.
